Blizzard Bag Assignment #1
Go to http://www.columbusmuseum.org/blog/medium/oil-on-canvas/ to find oil paintings at the Columbus Museum of art. You may pick any school-appropriate painting to study. Create a Google doc and share it with me at [email protected] OR print out the picture (right click, Save Image As, and print) and answer the following questions on the back of the paper. If you do not have access to a computer, answer the questions on a piece of paper and turn it in. The questions are to be answered in complete sentences in a short paragraph (see example below):
- What is the title?
- When was it made?
- Who painted it?
- Where are the elements of art (color, shape, form, texture, line, value, and/or space)?
- What do you think is the meaning or story behind the piece?
Assignment #1 Example
The painting I chose to study is titled The Promenade. It was painted in 1910 by Maurice Prendergast. The artist utilized various elements and principles of art in the painting. The elements of art that are most obvious to me are color and texture. Prendergast uses a wide variety of colors but incorporates them throughout the piece. The colors are bright and vibrant, which give the painting a lively feeling. Texture is seen in the brushstrokes, particularly in the trees and grass. The artist unified the painting by using the same colors throughout it. I think that this painting is about capturing the joy and excitement of a day by the lake.
Blizzard Bag Assignment #2
This is a drawing assignment. I would like you to draw your hand in a dynamic pose (giving the peace sign, pointing, praying hands, etc.). This should be a contour, or outline, drawing and does not need to include value, or shading. I suggest that you to put forth effort and spend 10-15 minutes to complete the drawing. See examples below:
