This week, Advanced 2D students created Artist Trading Cards! These are little 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" cards where they can experiment and show their mad skillz. They created a series of 3 or more and then created a few freebies! They are awesome.
Most graffiti is vandalism; keyword: most. We talk about how graffiti can be art, it is usually also vandalism and illegal if it is done on someone else's property. We also discuss how graffiti can be done legally by being paid by an authority to create a graffiti mural or doing it on paper! Since we figured we most likely wouldn't be asked to do a graffiti mural anytime soon, we decided to go with the latter and create graffiti on paper! Check them out!
The Advanced 2D artists do not disappoint. Check these out!! They designed, drew, and added color to complete their own color wheel creations. They are beautiful. And funny! Check out these fruit and veggie color wheel friends. That celery is so sassy though. Wow. Wow wow wowowowowow! So impressed with these kiddos.
3D Art students worked in teams to create an 18" sculpture.. out of spaghetti. Oh, and it had to be stable enough to hold a marshmallow... a JUMBO mallow! Students had to brainstorm, sketch, and work together through the challenges that came with this project! Congrats to our winners!Looks like someone got a little excited... And I caught these goofs all taking selfies with their sculpture. #spaghettisculptureselfie
Self PortraitI have to start by saying that my Advanced students this semester have already blown me away with this first prompt. Each Monday, I will assign a weekly prompt that is to be done at home by Friday. This week's prompt was "Self-Portrait". I told the students that it could be literal or more figurative and that they may use any materials to complete the assignment. That is all the instruction that I gave... and they are awesome. COME ON! REALLY? Blown. Away. I have a feeling it's going to be a great semester.
With the Elements of Art of course! We discuss each element of art and do drawing activities with each one! But since color is so extensive (aka exciting!), we spend a full class discussing it and then the students design and create their own color wheel! Students place their primaries in the correct spots and then practice mixing secondary colors and placing them accordingly! Great first mini project, 2D artists!
I hope everyone had a wonderful break spent with family and friends! I'm so looking forward to a wonderful semester of growth and exploration in art and I can't wait to see what you create!
