I love this project! It's a collaborative project where students work as a group to replicate a famous portrait that becomes an interactive piece for the art show! Here's what we did... As a group, they picked their top three choices of paintings to replicate. I explained to them that they would be painting these on 2 x 4 foot luon boards. Which needed first to be primed! TEAMWORK! Yeah! Next, was drawing their portrait and then projecting it onto their primed boards. At last, they were ready to start painting! Even Andrew, who had a broken hand, helped out! Throughout this project, the students got to practice mixing and matching colors. Here's one of the "Color Queens" at work! Before long, they were almost done painting. But we still needed to cut the faces out so people could put their own faces in and become a part of the painting! It was time to get the drill out! With parental consent, a few students even helped cutting out the faces. Special thanks to all of my helpers and to parents for letting them! After sanding down the edges and adding finishing touches, they were finally ready to try on! Some groups even made little pieces to hold in front of their face! Our awesome custodian, Mr. Cunningham, had some fun trying some on too! Great job, groups!!
