All right stop, collaborate and listen! Collaborative grid drawing time! For this project, I partnered with the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium to give my students the opportunity to showcase their artwork in a new and exciting environment! The Columbus Zoo is opening a new exhibit called "Heart of Africa" (Check out a sneak peek of the new exhibit here)! The Advanced Art students divided themselves into groups of 3-4 students and picked a photo of an animal from the African Savannah. They gridded the photos and worked on individual squares that came together to become these beautiful 3 x 5 ft drawings! We voted on the drawings and brought the top four drawings to the zoo! We also allowed the winning groups to come to the zoo on a field trip to help install their drawings! Congrats to our winners! A giraffe by Courtney, Victoria, Skylar, and Kaitlin A gazelle by Sami, Avonna, and Abby Also, coverage of our trip and some of the artwork is also on the Hilliard City Schools website (link here)! An elephant by Hari, John, and Matt An overexposed lion by Kade, Jimmy, and Mina After we installed the artwork, we did a scavenger hunt! These girls threw their teacher in a cage... While on the scavenger hunt, I couldn't help snapping a few photos of these spectacular animals! And I had to photograph these strange creatures below. We had a great trip to the zoo! Parents who volunteered to chaperone, thanks again!! And students, I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did! Mrs. Murlin and I are so proud of you! Check out the other drawings below. It was hard to leave them behind, but they are currently being displayed at school! Great job, Advanced Art!
