Yes, it is true that most graffiti is vandalism; keyword: most. We talk about how graffiti is art but it is also vandalism and illegal if it is done on someone else's property. We also discuss how graffiti can be done legally by being paid by an authority to create a graffiti mural or doing it on paper! Since we figured we most likely wouldn't be asked to do a graffiti mural anytime soon, we decided to go with the latter and create graffiti on paper! Check them out! Students used a variety from materials including colored pencils, watercolor pencils, sharpies, and construction paper. Masashi and Joel both used complementary colors to create contrast and make their graffiti pop! Click the smaller photos for a larger view! Some students used their regular names, while others used nicknames and even gamer names. Amy did "ae" to stand for angel eyes. To add creativity, she added wings with real feathers!! So awesome! Of course the emojis were popular to add! Paige added a little cartoon character of herself and she happened to be wearing the exact outfit as the character on the day she presented her work!
