I love this project! We started by exploring the Pop Art movement and some of the most well known artists involved with it, such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. When I'd done this project before, the assignment was to create a self-portrait in the style of Roy Lichtenstein. Looking back and reflecting, I'd noticed that although students usually did really well with this project, some of them really did not like the idea of drawing themselves. In fact, some detested it! I am continuously trying to think up ways to improve my lessons so this time around, I let students decide. They had the option to do a self-portrait, a celebrity, or a character. The students really seemed to enjoy these new options! Scroll down to see their excellent work!
One student even inserted her own face into a Star Wars comic strip!! How awesome is that?!
The artist of the piece below was inspired by some album art and found a way to incorporate it into her piece. I think it turned out beautifully!
Anther interesting twist this year - Snapchat filters!
Creepy Valerie vs. nice Valerie!
That's all folks! Great job, 2D artists!
